Education
The Clubhouse has had the privilege of hosting student interns from surrounding
schools; The University of Akron, Stark State College and the University of Findlay.
Members at the Clubhouse provide students with insight into living with a brain
injury, introduction to our unique program, and enhancement of their clinical, academic,
and research skills. Similarly, student interns assist members in enhancing members’
independence, community re-integration, and quality of life. Members and student
interns work collaboratively to establish and facilitate members’ goals, interests
and abilities that meet achievable outcomes. On the other hand, student interns
work to hone their professional skills by working with our members, thereby gaining
an invaluable experience.
For the past several years, Clubhouse staff, volunteers and members have attended
the Brain Injury Association of Ohio’s annual conference in Columbus, Ohio. Our
members participate in all aspects of the conference. It affords our members an
excellent opportunity to exercise the life and social skills learned at the Clubhouse,
network and cultivate relationships with others from around the State of Ohio, and
be educated on the current information on brain injury. It is an opportunity for
all to broaden their horizons.
Our educational Support Group for members, family and friends has been a popular
program for many years. Local professionals and survivors speak to the group on
brain injury related topics. Networking and support take place during the evening
as well.
